Oceanographic measurements on the FINO3 offshore research platform: Installation and operation of the measuring system, recording, archiving and evaluating the oceanographic data

Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie
Dipl.-Oz. Kai Herklotz

The objective is to record oceanographic data on and immediatly surrounding the platform. The measuring strategy includes:

  • a wave buoy to record significant wave parameters and to register individual waves
  • an acoustic current meter to record the current profile (13 depths) and the water level
  • CTD and oxygen probes at two depths (6m and close to ground level) to record temperature, conductivity, pressure and oxygen content

The meteorological and oceanographic data is archived in the ODIN database, which is accessible to all authorised users via an Internet portal.
