Sound pressure level

Realistic hydro-sound scenarios based on forecasting models and monitoring for the construction of offshore wind farms in the German North Sea (HyproWind)

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Raimund Rolfes

During the construction of offshore wind turbines in the North and Baltic Seas, construction measures and devices are used that generate considerable sound pressure levels under water and thus can lead to a sensitive influence, up to permanent damage, of marine mammals. The objective of the HyproWind project is to develop reliable forecast calculations of the sound pressure level for the entire affected area in the North Sea, depending on location and time and taking into account possible overlapping of several construction projects over time. The results of the forecast calculations shall be made available for use in the approval phase in the form of noise maps in a standardized format.
